Pre-K4 students master fine and gross motor skills through play-based activities/learning centers and practice collaborative problem-solving skills daily. Pre-K4 teachers provide opportunities for independent discovery, social skills, cooperative learning, and indoor/outdoor playtime to help each child develop skills for kinder success
Pre-K4
Math: counting from 1-100 orally, identifying shapes and the value of money, the duration of time, counting by 5’s, 10’s and 2’s, sorting, adding and subtracting, using word problems, working with tangrams, manipulatives and pattern blocks, greater than/less than
Phonics/Reading: phonics alphabet sounds, vowels and consonants, identifying letters and sounds from alphabet, identifying sight words, reading short stories
Handwriting: writing posture, pencil grip, writing from left to right, learning to write first and last names, writing upper and lower case alphabet, writing 2-3 letter words, writing sight words
Science: Thematic hands-on unit patterns, cycles systems, models, change, indoor and outdoor investigations
Social Studies: Thematic units, critical thinking skills, oral skills, community, self and families. Students acquire information from a variety of oral and visual sources and practice problem solving, decision-making and independent thinking skills.
Music: Students participate in classroom music activities, including singing and moving to rhythms
Art: Thematic Units, arts and crafts. Student uses a variety of art materials and activities for sensory experience and exploration. Students create artwork using a variety of lines, shapes, colors, textures, objects, forms, and many different materials.
PE: Students demonstrate an understanding of health/safety issues related to their daily routines and activities
Religion: Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Method. In the Atrium, a center for self-directed learning, students will receive and enjoy hands-on experiences of God’s love especially through Jesus, the Good Shepherd. Materials on the life of Jesus Christ and his teachings help to make the mystery of God concrete for the child. The main focus of the catechesis for students in Pre-K is on the parable of the Good Shepherd. Jesus announces that he is the Good Shepherd who calls each one by name. The sheep listen to the voice of the Shepherd and follow Him. Overall students will become acquainted with the historical character of the liturgy through the events of the Last Supper, Christ‘s death, and His resurrection.
